Ah. Google tells me there is a candy called Smarties. I had never heard of it.

There are actually two kinds of candy called Smarties…

both have been around for many years.

The American Smarties, shown in this strip, are little cello-wrapped rolls of what look like sugar pills….

a bit like Necco Wafers, only way smaller, and thicker, with a more tart, and fruitier, taste.

You probably never bought them on purpose but they always showed up in treat bags or your Halloween candy…

where you tried to trade three to your little sister for a mini Hershey bar.

If you’re a boomer or older, you may have seen them among the mini Tootsie Rolls and Charms suckers, as 2 cent candy near the cash register.

English Smarties are chocolate in a sugar shell….like M&M’s.

When I was a kid overseas we couldn’t get those, so we bought Smarties….

I’d say they’re a bit milkier tasting…. and the sugar coating used to have different flavors, like orange.

So Brits (and Canadians and Aussies) may be looking at this strip and going “Huh?”

But neither kind of Smarties are any smarter than a dummy if they go along with this crash testing stuff!

That’s how they make Pixie Sticks.
