Mitch McConnell — whose unprecedented obstruction of a moderate nominee, Merrick Garland (who had been explicitly recommended by Republicans as a consensus nominee), now has the nerve to demand civility and fair treatment of Trump’s ideologically extreme, highly partisan, biased nominee (Brett Kavanaugh) who has written articles claiming that presidents should be immune from investigations, indictments or criminal or civil proceedings.

Of course, Kavanaugh wrote that while working for war criminal George W. Bush.

Previously, he was on the staff of Kenneth Starr and was a key author of major sections of the report on Bill Clinton.

So apparently, only Republicans should be immune.

If confirmed, this biased partisan must recuse himself from any case in which Trump is involved.

And they will continue to wreak havoc on American life as long as they can trick people into thinking that others with less are to blame for their problems. No Autocracy is complete without some good scapegoats!

The corporations have found a way to to make record profits and can dominate their markets. Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Facebook, and other mega-corporations have stifled their competitors … either bankrupting or absorbing them. Supply-side economics which both parties endorsed has given corporations tremendous leverage … (e.g.) Citizen United. They want to maintain that power and a conservative SCOTUS will assure that. Partisan politicians no longer care if the public hates them or will not serve them at a restaurant. The parties no longer represent “we the people” but the corporation. Yes, they are aware of the decreasing number of startup businesses — the real job creators — but continue to cater to the giants. We need a trust-busting Teddy Roosevelt, but we have a sell-out in McConnell and other members of both parties in the House and Senate.

“America: 1785-2018.” R.I.P. It was nice while it lasted, but it’s finished now.

The right Justice will ensure the GOP can keep gerrymandering to keep electing the minority Republicans into Congress, the right Congress will ensure Trump will never be held accountable. Where they can ensure laws against running against Trump. Maybe we don’t need to elect anyone else now that Trump has made it so great.

Tower of secrets: the Russian money behind a Donald Trump skyscraper

The Trump Toronto reveals the links between a shadowy world of post-Soviet money and a future president.

By 2010, the Trump Toronto was supposed to be finished: 65 storeys containing 261 luxury hotel rooms and condominiums, all encased in a shimmering glass façade. But construction dragged on and in October, Alex Shnaider, the billionaire backer who had broken ground with Trump three years earlier, put aside another $40m for the project. Millions from the project would subsequently flow out to Trump himself — and documents seen by the FT raise serious questions about how Shnaider’s company was making its money in the period leading up to the decision to invest this $40m in the Trump Toronto.

A few months earlier, documents show Shnaider had approved a secret $100m “commission” payment to “introducers” representing the Kremlin’s interests. The payment was to facilitate the sale of his group’s prize asset, its stake in the vast Zaporizhstal steel mill in eastern Ukraine — and represented more than 10 per cent of the $850m sale price.
