I have enough faith in the American people to believe this is not going to happen, but I voted for Ford.

Sometimes it is necessary to negotiate with hostage takers and terrorists.

When financial interests clash with moral principles, the interests usually win, and always have. The only way to negotiate people out of power and privilege is by threatening them with something worse.

I remember an old cartoon: Two children in costume hold out their bags at the door and say Trick or Treat! The smiling man at the door asks, and What are you going to do if I don’t give you a treat? The two children look stricken and aghast at one another and finally answer We’d cry!

Trick or Treat is extortion. We’ve forgotten that and turned it into a game in which no one loses. We’ve done the same with politics. Big Money will rule this country unless the people employ the power of numbers (otherwise known as democracy) to force to share the wealth and power that naturally flows into their hands.

But the rich have learned their lessons well: don’t insult the masses, flatter them. Convince them that protecting the wealth and privilege of the great is all about ‘defending liberty’ and ‘opposing big government.’

    That’s about it.

This cartoon could have been drawn by Rahm Immanuel.

I’ve heard several times that Obama sticking it to the progressive wing of the Dem party was his idea, because, as Immanuel is supposed to have said, “They have nowhere else to go.”

Just remember…that’s what LBJ thought back in ‘68

If the Republicans came up with a younger (than McCain), less pro-business candidate, they’d be a shoe-in for 2012. It’s not too late to start working on it.

…Okay tell me this, in what substantive way would things be any different had Obama not been elected. He has given the republicans more than they had asked for.

I think that he is a neo-republican, and all the twirly-eyes flingling mud a vitriol at him is a smokescreen to cover his true identity. But they can stop now, the cover is blown.

The elected representatives are a mirror of the populace. If Dan Quayle in a dress is what they want, that’s what they’ll get. Seems like total destruction is the only solution.

Hey, if tax cuts create jobs, why did the country have the lowest job growth rate in recorded history after 2001?

    This thread delivers.

    @”the irrational left.”

Uganda, driven by the lunacy they’ve learned from their American counterparts, wants to execute or imprison for life people born gay because they believe that gays “recruit children” into their “ways” and that it is a “learned behavior.” They can provide no proof of this, but they’re willing to kill people over it. That is the rationale of the Right.

Perhaps this is why Righties cling so tightly to their guns. If lefties were even remotely as driven or insane as Righties, they would be truly dangerous folk.

That is what Conservatism gets you. Ask no questions. Merely kill what it is you do not understand. Open-mindedness leads to liberalism. One’s faith should never infringe on someone else’s right to live nor their human rights.

    P.S. Hillary 2008, Hillary 2012. Kthxbye!

^^ The job losses have dropped drastically since January 2009. If you think they’re bad now, I encourage you to look at how bad they were toward the end of the Bush administration. The GDP is up and the Stock market is up. I thought that’s all that mattered ? The rich are making money. So the jobs should be coming, right? I mean we keep passing more and more tax cuts (the stimulus had almost $300 billion in tax cuts). Tax cut here, tax credit there. Tax cuts are supposed to “just work,” that’s what we’re told!
