Not around a former sister-in-law at her house very rude to burp even softly. When my kids were young they had fun doing that and I had trouble breaking that habit. Now adults refrain.
A soda, which is made with ice cream, flavoring and soda water, wouldn’t make him burp as much as a can of pop.
I haven’t burped on purpose since elementary school. There didn’t seem to be any further point.
