    I still have a stack on top of the dining room hutch. At least one of them, I still get a replacement book every year.

    I get a replacement every year but though it used to be about two inches thick, it’s now only half an inch thick. And I never use it.

    Not much on plot, but a huge cast of characters! And I wonder if they can figure out how to use it, a lost skill much like grammar…… 8^)

    Before there were telephones, large cities had City Directories, which did more or less the same thing.

    I don’t know of any real skill in managing telephone directories, except, perhaps, the knowledge that, at least in the US, telephone directories, unlike all other sorts of alphabetical listing, put space /after/ Z in the alphabet.
