President Donald Trump believed that ripping apart immigrant families and jailing babies would be a winning political issue for him, but instead the horrific policy blew up in his face.
Jonathan Lemire, the White House correspondent for the Associated Press, told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that Trump enacted the policy — which he later blamed on Democrats — to intentionally ignite another political firestorm.
“In our reporting, he was telling people around him that he thought this would be a good cultural war, kind of victory here, akin to the NFL players kneeling for the national anthem,” Lemire said.
The president and attorney general Jeff Sessions admitted they hoped the detained children would force Democrats to agree to fund a border wall, along with other Trump immigration priorities, but instead he signed an executive order to end the separations.
“We had days of the president saying this couldn’t be done this way, that he would say, incorrectly, that it couldn’t be done by executive order, that it had to by Congress,”
It’s amazing how often Trump miscalculates. He thought 70% of the people in the country would approve of his kidnap-by-cop scheme, whereas 70% felt outrage. Trump thought that obstructing justice by firing James Comey would meet with approval. Whoops!
This comic is totally ignorant of the important (and often very dangerous) work the Immigration Control and Enforcement people do for all of us. That our borders are flooded with people trying to get in legally or otherwise is testament to what a great country we live in.
Yes, there were many “good people” working at Auschwitz-Birkenau and Buchenwald and Dachau and Sobibor etc. Just good people doing a difficult job…or maybe just being okay with committing crimes against humanity.
Meanwhile…..Back on The Ranch….45 plans a government overhaul to get rid of the social safety net. He’s going to put social security, Medicaid et al into one mega branch with the name “welfare” in it so they can vote to cut funding!

Sad. Blame the administration, but don’t demonize ICE or the BP. They are good people doing a difficult job.
