Back then, TV shows in the summer were all reruns, so you weren’t really missing anything.

If you added the fourth wall, you had another room.

On long hot summer nights when the electricity had failed, we let the Generac kick in, turned the AC back on and went in and watched Netflix

I remember those times. We kids would run through the sprinklers after dark because it was so hot – the adults sitting in lawn chairs chatting – never a thought about what was on TV.

Nowadays there are several ways to watch those shows when the electricity comes back on.

When our electricity fails there is almost invariably a storm involved such that you would not want to set foot outside. Though the tree that ripped it my line off the house earlier this year left us with several days to contemplate darkness. But it was winter, so, still, no outside.
