It’s always unfortunate when mere symbols are more venerated than the freedoms and principles ‘for which they stand’…

The Daily News pulls no punches with today’s front page calling the NFL ownership unpatriotic.

I am proud of my country, the anthem, our flag. And I’ll be damned if you think you can coerce me to stand for any of them. I’ll gladly do it willingly. But you try to make me and I’m done.

This is unAmerican, brought to you by the liars of the Republican party and the unAmerican people who are attacking and calling police on minorities. Shameful that they love the second amendment so much they have no room for the rest of our rights.

Don’t forget the trump salute! Let’s go back to the 30s and 40s when the world was so much better. Sad!

You can’t force people to stand and salute a flag.

You should give them reason to want to do it.

I kind of had the same attitude when I lived in Florida and had my Harley. I wore a helmet, I always wore a helmet, and would. BUT, I was ticked that the state TOLD ME that I HAD TO WEAR ONE!! You can suggest it, you can ask me to do it, you can recommend that I do it, but DON’T TELL ME THAT I HAVE TO!!

The fines have nothing to do with free speech. It has to do with revenue and the NFL’s target audience has voiced their displeasure. This is the end result of the media perverting the message via Trump tweets that the NFL is disrespecting the troops, when in fact it stands for something else.

BUT, if you REALLY stand for “The land of the free”, that means you CAN kneel during the song.

And once again, you are all missing the facts governing the situation.

Private sector employees do NOT have a right to political speech in the workplace unless it is specific to work related issues, organizing, etc.

Of course the ONLY REASON that The Dumpsterfire has brought this up again is to throw red meat to his mouth-breathing minions to draw their attention AWAY from the ongoing and more explosive revelations about the depths of his corruption and Russian Collusion that are surfacing daily! “SHIELDS UP!! DEFLECTORS ON FULL!! LOOK!! OVER THERE!!! EVIL ATHLETES!!! LOOK!! LOOK!!!”

Andylit highlights an ugly fact about modern America – that the principles in the Constitution are presumed to stop at the office door. And with Republicans (and plenty of Democrats) working to privatize the last vestiges of government, the Constitution becomes a bitter joke.

Some people here and elsewhere have expressed the view that the NFL football players are employees and should not be expressing political ideas during their work. Hmmm. So the NFL players should just stick to their job?

Here’s an idea: The president would do the same thing. He works for the American taxpayers. He is an employee. The Constitution and other laws set out his working conditions.

He should not take emoluments. He should not collude with hostile foreign governments. He should honor and follow his oath of office. He should not encourage Congress to pass laws which benefit a handful of ultra-wealthy people at the expense of the working poor and middle class. He should respect the rule of law and the institutions which protect the rights of the people. He should behave in accordance with the Constitution.

He should address in a positive manner the matters which the NFL players are protesting.

All of that, and some dignity would be refreshing, too.
