Medicare, Social Security, our armed forces. Just because you label something “socialism” doesn’t mean it’s bad. Venezuela is facing a lot of issues other than a label.

You say that as though it’s a bad thing. Better than the oligarchy we are in now.

The right will uses socialism as a bogeyman. All of the examples of bad socialism are dictatorships first and socialist second. Finland has the highest standard of living in the world. Lisa, show me a failing democratic socialist state. The United States might do better as a democratic (small d) socialist nation.

Socialist Programs in America:The US Post OfficePublic SchoolsPublic LibrariesPublic RoadsPublic UtilitiesLocal, State and National Parks SystemsSafety and Security Programs (Police, Fire, Ambulance)The entire United States Department of Defense

In short, anything that private industry COULD do, but We, the People do because we don’t want our health and security to be held hostage by Robber Baron Corporate Capitalism and we don’t want our government held hostage by oligarchs like the Kochs, Sinclair Broadcasting, Seven Mountains the Trump’s, the Bush’s and the Clinton’s and so on.

Don’t give me any nonsense about when socialism was first described and when the Post Office was founded. Pluto was discovered in 1930, but we felt its gravitational effects on our planet since forever. Socialism is the same way.

We do not have to allow EVERYTHING to be controlled by the government, to enjoy the benefits of socialism. But we already benefit from it, whether you can admit it or not. We’ve been doing so since BEFORE the American Revolution.

Socialism makes sense. My neighbors and I can’t afford to educate our children well enough to compete with the children of the wealthy. So our state built a democratic public education system which allows our children access to knowledge and experience. It is foolish to claim that this is not socialism, or that it does not work.

So many of you are brainwashed by cowards, afraid of change. Influenced by the ignorant who know no better. And by the paid voices of the elite, like Ms. Benson, whose job it is to keep us ignorant, afraid and easy to control.

Americans have never fully understood what socialism really is; look at real socialist countries such as Sweden, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Japan, New Zealand, Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, etc. All countries that frequently score higher on international “best places to live” than the US. People frequently refer to “socialism” as the big scary boogieman is simple fearmongering, and the weakminded are scared into believing it is this horror akin to communism. Venezuela is a failed state that is now devolving into a fascist mess. To compare successful countries like Norway to the dog’s breakfast that is now Venezuela is simply ridiculous.

Like all Trump Disciples, Lisa longs for America to become an oligarchy like Russ-e-a, where journalists and trump opponents can disappear or die under tragic and mysterious circumstances.

I mean, Venezuela is the ONLY possible alternative, right?

For those who missed it: Venezuela is in a mess because it’s been led by an autocratic regimes that made two big mistakes:

    1. Allowing their once diverse economy to be dominated by petroleum exports. Unlike most of Latin America, Venezuela never did anything about reforming an incredibly inefficient agricultural sector where most of the land is owned by about 3% of the population. They’ve never tried to court manufacturing that’s created growth in many other parts of the region.

    2. Getting on the bad side of the United States. Between embargoes, sanctions & manipulation by the US & it’s allies, oil prices are at historical lows.

Now, if you’re a dummy like Benson, you think it’s the Socialists who did all this. The Venezuelan economy inherited by Chavez less than 20 years ago was already entirely oil dependent, thanks to a parade of American backed autocrats. If there’s any moral to be learned, it’s that letting a autocrats beholden to a foreign power run your economy, leads to bad outcomes.

Unless Sanders proposes nationalizing industries & advocating overturn of free markets in favor of central planning, give it a rest.

It’s interesting that American right-wing fascists have no problem paying as a group for something they hope never to directly use or need (I’m referring to the Police, Fire and Justice systems), but balk at coming together for things they do need and use. I’m referring to education and health care. Luckily, education was made available to the general public long ago before the present generation of rightist s***heads came around. Unfortunately, education is now under attack and healthcare is presently in the hands of people like Martin Shkreli. It seems that all attempts to make healthcare truly available to all is being sideswiped by the stupidest, selfish group to exist on the planet. That being the “religious right”.

Social programs are NOT socialism, unless you like to see dead people lying in the streets.

I get the impression that Benson’s idea of a socialist is anybody who’s even a centimeter to the left of Ronald Reagan. To all who howl about the “evils” of socialism: You benefit every day from them.

The problem, as with most failing nations, isn’t socialism, but corruption, be they capitalist, Communist, or Socialist. Trump represents perhaps the ultimate expression of the problem, not the solution.
