Unless you have saved a fortune, every day is not a vacation.

Don’t need a fortune. Just need to get there with no debt, which is very doable if you don’t do foolish tings like buy two new cars every three years and remortgage the house when you’re 50. I hardly have a fortune. And I didn’t begin serious thinking about retirement until I was nearly 55. Always did work that was fun but didn’t pay much. But I did my last ten years working for the state and so came away with some pension and paid health insurance for life (1/2 paid for my wife). Plus, we learned how to do everything for ourselves and never had to hire people to do it for us. We’re not rich at all, but we’ve got more than the least we need indefinitely.

Ha! I’m retired and working as hard as ever… and I don’t get paid, and my hours aren’t limited.

I was forced into a medical retirement due to injury when I was 48While the first few years were very difficult due to pay being cut in half, We managed to finally pay off everything. Now pay all credit cards in full every month. Keep our car until it cost far more to fix than is reasonable, have managed to purchase 2 new houses, 1 in 2004 sold in 2016, and 1 in 2017. Sold our first home in 2003. On the market for fewer than 10 days, multiple people bidding against each other which we finally sold for $45,000 over our asking price. Life is in fact very good.

Yes, Cape Cod is lovely in August when all the people are there. But it’s far better after Labor Day.
