I used to have lots of pictures in my wallet, and then I added some plastic sleeves with pictures in my purse. I had about 30 or so pictures I was carrying around. Stopped that when I retired and now do not carry any pictures in my purse (or wallet). Most people do not care about those pictures you are so proud of, though they are mostly too polite to say so. I still have all those pictures, just do not carry them around with me anymore.

Nowadays, I think a lot of folks have many pictures on their smartphones to show to whomever they think might like to see them. I don’t have a smartphone.

Up until recently my wife still carried a big clunker of a photo keychain of our boys in preschool. She finally retired that one (after years of wondering why her purse was so heavy) now that the youngest is 25.

I have a smartphone. It’s loaded with photos of grandkids, kids, our friends, our bunny, our kids vacations, (we can no longer go)….and I only share with people who share their similar photos with me. It’s fun, done that way. No intrusion on people who don’t want to be bothered, lots of fun and laughter for those that do. You just have to be smart when using your smartphone!

This is where technology actually helps.

I’m not sure technology, i.e. a smart phone, really helps. About a million times (maybe not quite, ha!) I have had friends, relatives and total strangers say “Oh, let me show you that picture on my phone,” and then spend 5 minutes hunting around all over the place on the stupid phone for the desired picture, or say “Well, I can’t find that one, but these are just as cute!” and showing a bunch of OTHER pictures, while I gaze around me looking for an escape route, or a length of rope to hang myself, ha! I try to be polite, and if they say “I’ll email that to you when I find it,” that’s okay, as I know I can look and then erase it at my leisure!

Before camera phones, families had photo albums that everyone looked at if for no other reason than to laugh at the way things were. Now we have photo albums on our phones with 100 times more photos that no one looks at.
