I really enjoy Jen’s work… but one aspect of today’s effort is off a bit…. the “aluminum phallaus” phrase is, IMO, a little off the mark. While there are a (very few) vehicles with aluminum bodies, including a version of the F150 truck, the sheer volume of vehicles (large or small) are steel (iron).

Aluminum is being used more frequently today as a way to REDUCE the weight of a vehicle to IMPROVE gas mileage. The effect may be relatively minor, but none-the-less, it is true. I think Jen’s comic would have been more on the mark if she had used the phrase “iron phallus” or “steel phallus”… since it reflects the more common material used to build the vehicles she is referencing.

Wasn’t the EPA suing California over their emissions regulations? Talk about states rights.

seems like the pro-“life” party only cares about you until you are out of the womb. Then you are on your own – where they help the billionaires and the polluters. Why are they in such a fit to get a child born and then not care about it’s life?

Usually the people who buy these things use them for work, not leisure. I have yet to meet someone who isn’t hauling tools, a pressure machine of some sort, or cargo. There is the occasional boat owner, but those are few and far.

I used to act a little holier-than-thou over people who bought SUVs. I just think there’s little genuine reason to purchase an SUV when a mini-van or station wagon would suffice and have stricter gas mileage standards. While I still believe that, I ended up buying my own used SUV recently as it was the closest thing to a station wagon in my price rage and it at least matched the rated gas mileage of the sedan it replaced.
