Once again the inscription on the James Farley Post Office building in NY City gets passed off a motto of the US Postal Service. The inscription is a paraphrase of the 500 BC Greek description by Herodotus of the Persian courier system. A real USPS motto is “Protect the Revenue”
I love the law requiring the USPS to fund its pension plan in advance. It should be required of ALL corporations. Your stock dowsn’t trade until they’re funded.
If not for junk mail, one-day a week delivery would cover bills and communications I don’t handle online. Reducing deliveries would save the USPS a bundle, and reduce the money wasted by junk mailers and their ridiculous waste of resources.

The Post Office is an area where the so-called ‘free market conservatives’ are absolutely unwilling to allow the market to work.
If the PO were allowed to charge market rates for junk mail, they would be successful without needing subsidies.
