Can’t you use that joke for nuclear research, and claim it’s heavy water?

Kind of felt like this during the recent NOVA program on mathematics and its applications. If you went by this program, you’d think that STEM professionals are 60% women, 25% black, and usually young and glamorous with possible careers as models or musicians. But they did have one shot of actual engineers at work, a large roomful working on the landing of a Mars probe, and they were all white or Asian men. They couldn’t cherry-pick that one to fit the message. (And I certainly want the field to be more reflective of the general society, an admirable goal; but it’s not that way now, sorry to say.)

I have an image of Carolyn Porco in her Star Trek uniform. But she researches Saturn.

If I saw lab coat scientists loading gunny sacks full of science onto a rocket, I would believe.
