Snappers are scary fast; I threw a morsel of meat several inches in front of one, and the meat simply disappeared. There was no visible movement of the snapper’s head.

We have BIG snappers in the lake in my town. I’m talking 3 feet long. I used to have to move them out of the road occasionally. If you grab them by the sides of their shell, they can’t reach you to bite. They have claws, but not that sharp. Once, I was standing next to one to take a picture, and the overhead power line dropped right next to us! (Separate story.) But the guy from the power company showed up and I showed him the turtle, and HE just grabbed its tail and dragged him out of the way! He told me he was from Louisiana, and that was how they did it down there. He also said they were good eatin’!

I like the delay between the first and third panels.

My dad used to bring snappers home. He would get a heavy stick and tease the turtle and when he snapped it dad pulled its head out farther and chopped it off. The meat is good and good in turtle soup also.
