Sheesh. Guess Ramirez doesn’t know how our legislative branch works either, just like Benson. Pelosi was handily re-elected by voters in the district where she was on the ballot.
OTOH if Pelosi resigned she could run for President in a couple of years, or at least threaten to do so, not unlike a certain former Refudiator-General of Alaska.
Voters said they didn’t want Pelosi to be Speaker of the House and third in line to be President. The voters spoke on that question. In race after race Republican house candidates say elect me and we will be rid of Pelosi. Why is that so difficult to understand? Democrats tried that same tack with Bush.
Woah, Ramirez is going on Pelosi venom again. Seriously, you’d think she was an incredibly efficient leader who handed the republicans their behinds like never before.
The only voters who said anything about Pelosi were the voters in her district, who re-elected her. The kind of nonsense analysis from some posters here is just flat out wrong. Worse, it’s silly.
The best description I’ve heard of Pelosi is that she is/was an insider Speaker — very effective working with her members and accomplishing their goals. She never tried to be an outsider Speaker. She’s not a great speaker (communicator) and never tried to set herself up to be anything other than Speaker. She was encouraged to take classes on how to talk to media (it’s all tactics, not content) and declined.
Gingrinch was an outsider Speaker. He was disliked by his members, not very effective at the machinations required to accomplish goals. His focus was outward, he acted as the Speaker of the “people.” to whom he directed most of his efforts. That’s the opposite of how Pelosi took on the job.
She was very effectively demonized as a rich, liberal San Franciscan clamoring to be a Marxist. My guess is most of these demonizations rolled off her back, because her audience was always inside, not outside.
Here’s a good take on her leadership:
http://tinyurl.com/PelosiTenure
^ That is a relief, many Democrats and Republicans thought the Obama election was a repudiation of Bush. Glad to learn that wasn’t so, nobody even had a single of thought of W as they went to the polls in 2008.
Okay, Palin had her witches “driven out” in a spooky ceremony, O’Donnell actually “dabbled”, then denied it, and the Republicans are calling, like forever, Pelosi a witch??? Now I don’t care for her lack of leadership- but how come the real witchy whackos are the “religious right”?
@ lib 1, I repeat the question, what are you talking about:
^ That is a relief, many Democrats and Republicans thought the Obama election was a repudiation of Bush. Glad to learn that wasn’t so, nobody even had a single of thought of W as they went to the polls in 2008.
Pelosi lost the speakership because the Democrats lost the House. I don’t think Pelosi lost the people, she wasn’t trying to win the people. She was trying to pass legislation and succeeded.
I think the Reps won the narrative. I don’t like how they did it (e.g., death panels). I don’t like the h/c bill much myself, because it’s too weak, doesn’t do enough to contain costs and ended up being a huge gift to private insurance industry.
I don’t like the way Congress works. My opinion is that Pelosi worked the system we have very well. I don’t like the system, nor do most American people like the system. I don’t like the system under any other Speaker either. She didn’t create it, but she did play it very well.

My point was voters across the country wanted to repudiate Bush’s policies and so voted for Obama. Voters across the country wanted to repudiate Pelosi’s policies and so voted for the Republican candidates. Same concept. Bush wasn’t on the ballot but his policies were, ditto Pelosi.
Pelosi kept denying that the voters would end the House Democratic majority……even after the losses showed 61 House seats had switched from D to R, Pelosi was still in denial…..and her latest absurdity was to say that Obama’s policies had nothing to do with the vote results….
one House district in 3043 counties and umpteen districts is not a measure of the American Voter’s expressed “Will of the People”…
I think Pelosi ded a great job, she MUST have done a great job for the Republicants to hate her so much.
Now it is time to move on, and let the Dems choose a minority whip, which I don’t think should be Pelosi.

It’s a little late for Halloween, but the scariest trick I can think of would be having Pelosi vs. Palin as our choice for President.

@lib1, if you choose to believe the voters in 2008 were voting against Bush rather than choosing between Obama or McCain, that’s your right.
if you’re choosing to believe voters in 2010 were voting against Pelosi instead of between the two candidates on their ballot, that’s also your right.
I choose to believe otherwise; and that’s why O’Donnell, Angle, Paladino, Buck and apparently, Miller, were not voted into office.
