Always read/enjoyed Beetle Bailey while I was young.
" … Mort Walker, the renowned comic strip artist best known for his cartoon depicting the high jinks of the loafing Army private “Beetle Bailey,” died Saturday at the age of 94 at his home in Stamford, Conn.
Walker drew Beetle Bailey as a daily comic strip for 68 years, making him the longest-running artist in the medium’s history, according to a statement from King Features, which performed the original syndication for the strip. …"
He founded the National Cartoon Museum too, which unfortunately was not able to keep going on its own, but has now been moved to OSU. I saw it when it was in Boca Raton, FL, and it was great for any cartoon junkies like myself (and probably most of the people who bother to post here)!
I have read Beetle Bailey from the first day I picked up the daily comics—probably 61 – 62 years ago. Condolences to Mr. Walker’s family and all of Beetle’s (and Sarge’s, Zero’s, Killer’s, Plato’s, Fuzz’s, Halftrack’s whew and more my senior moment is leaving out for now) fans.
