I like season one of Discovery more than I did the first season of Next Generation or Voyager when they first came out. In fact I stopped watching half way through the first years of those two shows only to pick it up again awhile later after Riker got a beard and Seven of Nine came on board. Discovery is definitely darker than previous Star Treks and has yet to really find a moral center but the characters are nuanced, diverse, and seemingly authentic. Recent shows have brought some humor to the script, particularly with Tilley which looks promising and the current Mirror Universe arc is well done. Perhaps a few more plot twists than expected but in the era of TV after Lost that is only to be expected. However as with almost all Star Trek series this one, while starting a bit slow, is picking up its pace and if the past is any guide season two should see some corrections to its ultimate direction. I therefore remain with whatever percentage of viewers who continue to like the show. Sure beats any sitcom, contemporary police drama, or endless terrorist/special forces tripe on the TV these days.

I also think that Discovery’s favorable ratings will increase if released on its regular network channel. Something I hope will occur before season two shows online (assuming there is a season 2 of course).

I only saw the opening preview “freebie” episode of Star Trek: Discovery. So I really don’t have enough evidence of good/bad. That being said, they lost me from wanting to see more when they revealed the Orc/Drow halfbreeds they are claiming as the new Klingons.
