The Biology department at the University of Michigan actually did split into two departments about 15 years ago — the department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and the department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. Basically, one looks at the study of entire organisms and their interactions, while the other looks at the cellular and molecular level of life (chemical reactions, genes, and so on).

She’s have learned early in the year that asking that last question would lead to a world of weirdness.

If she were smart enough she should point out the flaw in his question. He is assuming bi is the prefix, when it is actually bio, which is from bios- which means life. So the answer to his question is no, plus the explanation just given.

Bio-logy – from the Greek Bios – “life” and Logos – “word” (often used to mean study), so the Word (study) of Life.

Rectory is from Rector “ruler”; Rectum (rectum intestinum) is from Rectus “straight” – both Latin words with similar sounds, but very different meanings, and not derived from each other

The WW on Frazz’s shirt looks kind of like a Wills Wing logo. I used to fly a Wills Wing hang glider, but the only connection is that was the double-W logo I was coming up with at the moment.

Why the double-W? For Walt Whitman.

Why the nod to Walt Whitman? Oh, I bet someone with access to the comments section knows …
