Muslim-minority Rohingya villages near the Bangladesh border are being deliberately torched in a campaign of ethnic cleansing. Satellite images from mixed ethnic areas show that non-Rohingya areas appear to be left untouched. The Rohingya have lived in Myanmar for centuries and are considered one of the most persecuted populations in the world. The latest outbreak of violence in Rakhine began in August after a series of reported attacks by Rohingya militants on police border posts. In response, the Myanmar military and Buddhist nationalists launched a brutal crackdown on the Rohingya.
Bangladesh is taking on refugees, while the Myanmar government claims it is fighting a terrorist insurgency, and says it is targeting terrorists suspected of masterminding the August attacks. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the crisis has become “catastrophic” Aung San Suu Kyi has been criticized over her response to the mounting violence, though Myanmar’s de facto leader has little power to change the situation.
There must be much more pressure on Aung San Suu Kyi and Myanmar’s military leadership who are still carrying out abuses to end this carnage. It’s time for the international community to wake up to the nightmare the Rohingya are living through.

Also they have made the United States one of the 20 or so NO votes against protecting LGBT persons in the world in the vote at the UN. Which tells you how they’re going to stand in our country. I think we have more homophobes in our country than there are in the rest of the world put together! Yeah, if they don’t look like us, talk like us, think like us, pray like us, just stomp on them. Isn’t that what are President advises everyone to do? Are we tired of winning yet? I sure am getting tired of being embarrassed to be an American!
Why do even those who feel that it’s evil still use the term without putting it in quotes? (Quotes are commonly used to imply “so-called”.) That makes them look like they agree that there’s something “dirty” that needs to be “cleansed”.
