Just ANOTHER REASON to drive! If I can’t DRIVE THERE, I ain’t going! Screw the Thug Security Agency, Cattle-car Airlines, and now Amateur Air Traffic Controllers!
Many countries have created government-owned corporations, independent government agencies or quasi-governmental entities. Canada is the only country to create what is clearly a private nonprofit air-traffic corporation. NavCanada can raise private capital, make long-term financial commitments, and it recently lowered the fees it charges airlines.
But the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service reported last month that there appears to be no conclusive evidence that any of those approaches is better or worse than government-run services, including the FAA’s, in terms of productivity, cost-effectiveness, service quality, and safety and security.
The last I heard, the burnout rate from stress for air controllers was absolutely enormous. If you make just one single tiny mistake it could result in the deaths of hundreds, possibly even thousands. This is not something to cut corners on folks.
Here’s a SCARY THOUGHT!! “Halliburton Air Traffic Control, Inc.” A wholly owned subsidiary of Darth Cheney Enterprises! (Headquartered in Dubai, to avoid paying ANY taxes!)
I like how the Republicans wreck the government and then complain it can’t do anything right. This is just what airlines need, we already have people being dragged off of planes. Now we need Trump’s plan to make air travel worse? When will he make America great again?
SCUBA, the government does many things well when properly funded. Air traffic control systems haven’t been updated because of the endless shut downs and furloughs forced by the Republicans refusing to raise the debt ceiling which is technically trying to default on our bills. The uncertainty negatively affected US bond rating which increased our costs for borrowing money. The Repubs tried to scuttle the Post Office by forcing them to fund pensions for 75 years – this would include pensions for future employees not even born yet. But the PO is now being used by FedEx and UPS for the last leg of their deliveries.
As behind as our program is thanks to underfunding by Congress, for a long time, compare the US safety record to those “other countries”. If you want a ticket on an airplane to go from one hub to another, all that will be left with privatization, that requires a second morgtage on your house to pay for, yep, go for it.
BRASS ORCHID, the under-funding from Congress is because of REPUBLICAN obstruction over raising the debt ceiling. Raising it was no problem under Bush and there haven’t been any shutdown threats under Trump, but Repubs refused to raise it under Obama. The Repubs have been the majority for years now, this didn’t come “just in time” like you want to claim. The Republican shutdowns and furloughs are directly to blame for the inability to upgrade air traffic control systems, and hurting our bond status and ability to borrow money as well.

What a FUBAR idea! I’m glad we don’t get scheduled airliners at our local airfield. That should keep most of the wrecks away from here.

Yes, it does seem we have seen this movie before. Some things are worth paying for, such as decent salaries for air traffic controllers. Good lord.

Where will they get the money for the upgrades, by charging the airlines more. How will the airlines pay for it, by raising ticket prices.

INTERVENTOR, your claim doesn’t mean much if you don’t name the countries where privatizing air traffic control allegedly works.
