Hollywood makes way too many movies trying to portray white southerners during the civil war as ‘human’. Hollywood directors and producers depict a sympathetic view of the slave owners strictly because they were Democrats. The post civil war period of reconstruction is just as bad. White Democrats in the south were terrible people up until the 1970’s; when they finally abandoned the party for the GOP (who shamefully welcomed them).
