Stow the Christmas cards? Just use them as disposable coffee coasters.

Smart and colorful. Also, note pads.

All of them erased with a touch of a button. There’s sentiment for you.

Email cards are much appreciated but they just don’t hold that much interest for me compared to those written by hand and that arrived via postal delivery.

I personally like re-reading the cards about a week after New Year’s. Some I discard; others I keep.

But then, I’m in my eighth decade, been doing it this way for most of that time, and I am good with it.

Just because something is “old fashioned”, doesn’t mean it is wrong. An example.:

We had slight thunderstorms about a week ago. The local TV weatherman said to all the people sending him emails (or facebook or whatever) that it was an old wife’s tale that within ten days there would be snow. Well, right now we are under a weather weather advisory expecting 2-3inches of that old wife’s tale. A little to the west of us will get up to 10 inches.

I feel a bit disgruntled at Frazz’s comment today…. “If you keep doing everything the same way, you don’t have to notice until it blindsides you.” is a rather, IMO, crass sort of statement on several levels:

    .

    1. I tend to see a whole lot more significance in a tangible holiday card than in an e-card. Mrs. Olsen’s feelings of depression at having the kid think all “cards” are e-cards is not a negative, IMO. While it may be true that more folks are sending greetings in this fashion, it still does not mean it is wrong to feel sadness at the loss of something that is arguably nicer in many regards.

    .

    2. Consistency is a concept and a way of doing things that I sincerely value very highly. Change, just for change’s sake seems foolish and is akin, IMO, to being like sheep. In this scenario, just because many folks send e-cards, does not mean I should (or should not, for that matter). I choose to send paper cards because I value them and have sent them every year for many decades. I value the consistency I maintain in MANY things… and do not feel it is necessary to change my manner of doing things just because others may change or because a new way becomes “trendy”.

    .

    3. Saying being “blindsided” suggests to me that Frazz thinks doing things an “old” way, or being consistent in doing something a particular way is also going to make the old Luddite who is unaware of what is going on around him/her. That is an inappropriate association to make, IMO. A person can be VERY WELL AWARE of the “trendy” new ways to do something, but may not want to do them the “trendy” way.

    .

    All-in-all, I found today’s comic somewhat mean-spirited and unkind.

I pay my bills online and use my debit card for purchases, but I STILL like to send/receive actual Christmas cards by mail.

For a long time the command key has also had an apple on it, and all Apple keyboards have had function keys on them for many years now.

“That is what being a “luddite” is all about. A stick in the mud who refuses to accept progress and move on. That’s fine as long as it doesn’t get in the way of those who HAVE moved on.”

How did we ever get to the point where people can say out loud that old people are a pain in the butt and should go somewhere else so they don’t bother people? Why should I, merely because I’m 40 years older than you, have to conform to what YOU want? What makes YOU so important to anyone other than YOU?

Today’s discussion was very apropos for me. Today is my birthday. I received and responded to over two dozen electronic birthday wishes — much more satisfying than having cards dribble in over the next few weeks of snail-mail!

Wow. Teachers are actually opportunity-challenged actors?Just what genius explained all THAT to, of all people, YOU?

You must have always wanted to be a hall monitor.Look here, the topic or skill etc, to teach…is primary. Parents doing homeschooling…bless them! usually will get called by their kids if NOT being familiar and capable in the topic. They keep on their toes.Is it true that teaching colleges do NOT require expertise in the subject you will teach, in order to graduate?
