Most files are deleted by erasing the first letter or number of the filename. It will sit there until it is overwritten or wiped. Even partials can be recovered these days even from a single overwrite depending on the medium.
There was a female photographer back in the 90s – forget the name – who was arrested or investigated for taking nude pictures of her kids. Purely artistic, nothing prurient. They didn’t charge her but she was a published artist so she had credibility. She probably would have been facing very different outcome had she been male.
