I remember one of the first time I made the honor roll. You got to go on trip cross country skiing. I didn’t ski and I wasn’t interested in the trip. Not to mention I didn’t really socialize with anyone outside of school at that time and trips like that were to my mind more of a socializing thing. Given my academic history none of my classmates believed I made the honor roll. Some of them were totally shocked when our shop teacher, who was also the vice principal, asked me why I wasn’t on the field trip with everyone else who made the honor roll.
One of my schools sponsored ski weekends every winter after Christmas. I never went, but I most likely would have stayed inside the lodge, hung out by the fireplace, and sipped hot cocoa. I was never meant to hit the slopes.
There are several schools in VT and NH where their gym class in winter is skiing. Jackson, NH has a ski rack right outside of their elementary school for gym at Black Mountain and many other schools do the same. Cabot sponsors an all school field trip to Burke every year as well.

Skiing is dangerous … Watch Michael Schumacher injured in 2013 and not yet cured.

Is that even a valid question?

They would not have trusted us not to deliberately puncture one another with the ski poles when I was in Elementary School. And wisely so.
