Yep, that’s the way it works. Things never do settle down.

Alix and Holly should’ve went out for cheerleading like me and Erica. It’s a physical sport also.

C’mon, there’s always a way to make it work if you try. Between all the adults in that family, they can cover activities for a weekend, or Alix and Holly can skip them for once. I think you’re just nervous, Val…

Notice what Val is substituting (nervously) for s*x - chocolate chip cookies! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…. I’m happy to have both of them.

@mythreesons: this is in answer to your comment from yesterday. Just by chance I noticed that Phil’s skin colour was browner than all the other people in the strip (well, one lady who works where Val does has darker skin). So I kept checking from then on, and it was consistent. I was very impressed by Ms. Eliot’s courage - that’s the sort of thing I would expect newspapers to censor.
But then I thought it thru and I realized that Phil is only somewhat brownish, probably Hispanic, and what really bothers people is darker brown/black - Afro-American.
And no, I can’t recall one single word being said about it by the other people. I am impressed by this also.

RinaFarina, Phil is part African American, part white. Wally’s neighbor lady is his aunt.

It’s the single mom in her that putting the kids schedules ahead of her romance. She’s using the excuse that her kids need her to delay the romantic weekend and using the cookies to make her feel better about it. I’m a single mom during the week (dad works out of state) and I can’t even get myself to go out with a girl friend bcs my kids are so busy.

“Alix and Holly should’ve went out for cheerleading like me and Erica. It’s a physical sport also.”
Has there ever been any indication that Alix and Holly WANT to be cheerleaders? Alix likes soccer (and hates wearing skirts). Holly likes basketball. They “should” do what they enjoy.

@rinafarina–I was just so dumb-founded to think that I had NEVER picked up that Val and Phil were not of the same race. Wondered if I was stupid, or maybe just so tolerant it wasn’t important. The header above the comic should have been a tip-off, but certainly went over my head. I don’t think it makes any difference to any of the comic family, either, so GO Val and have a great time.

Sometimes just the idea of the getaway is enough to keep you going for a while.

why think weekends…if Phil is working weekends he should have 2 days off in week..take off then places won’t be crowded. moe privacy. I’m sure Val can wiggle some vacation days.
