Worst guy I ever arrested had 9 homicide warrants, four for shooting cops at traffic stops. I had a good backup riding with me that night, a rare situation, and the stop was for broken taillight and no license plate, initially. Guy had a 9 mm on the seat, and things just were too hinky. He screwed up and gave me his real SS number, busted!
It can be interpreted as events “inspiring” a panic in young black men about being pulled over for something trivial and being shot. I would expect nothing more than a warning ticket if pulled over for a minor violation. I guess if I was black I might reconsider that idea.
An addendum on the event: the “bad guy” was a well dressed white guy who didn’t match the beater car he was driving. My partner that night was a 7’2" black US Park Police officer, and became a good friend. It was an awakening on several levels that in life, things aren’t always what they first appear. Which combining black and white in the same view, like yin-yang, makes far more sense than division, and seeing all as shades of grey brings more colorful, and fulfilling, lives to us all.
