The trick is, Congress knows all the escape routes (like the elevator). They react immediately, if you want to survive the demand for action, you can’t just stand there, you have to say there will be no action taken BEFORE there has been a call to action. Forget your constituents If you’ve determined that it’s best to run, then forget your voters, your donors or the children who have been shot in your district. Though your first instinct may be to help your voters, none of them are as important as your guns.
House doesn’t have the filibuster, this is a sit in, wish it would work. Regulate doesn’t mean confiscate. Sensible, rational, solutions to make folks safer don’t have to ban guns, licensing, smaller magazines, and letting government keep the records GUN MANUFACTURERS AND THE NRA can maintain, would be a start. BTW: fewer than 5% of shooters qalify as having “mental disease” this is a red herring NRA loves, which I don’t understand as La PIerre and his most ardent supporters are nuts.
Yes, I’m a gun owner, and would never join the NRA La Pierre and his backers created, and destroyed the original organization.
A group in Congress just demonstrated to the electorate how little regard the Representatives from the right have for the average American. It’s more than gun control, look at your retirement savings too.
It’s about all they can do when the Republican speaker of the house won’t do anything until President Obama’s term is over. Even then they won’t do much that will do us any good.
Democrats hold a sit-in to talk about protecting the American people. Republicans interrupt it to have a vote to protect scam artists. The moral bankruptcy of the Republican Party becomes more obvious with each passing day.
The Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and the Presidency from 2008 to 2012 and did not even consider a vote for further gun control. (Remember, Obamacare passed without any Republican votes in either the House or the Senate). That alone tells me that this is political theater, nothing more.
And well it should be, with an election coming up. I hope both House and Senate Democratic candidates have ad agencies that can cut this into devastating commercials. Since 90% of Americans want this.
Since the vote would without question lose, why be afraid to hold the vote? Because then the voters in gerrymandered red districts MIGHT just wake up! (Is Paul Ryan the second-biggest coward ever to be Speaker of the House, after Newt Gingrich? And let’s not even bring up Dennis Hastert, who’s reporting to prison today.)
One more law to stop crime will not stop criminals. One more law to stop terrorists will not stop terrorism. Why do so many people have so much trouble comprehending this?
@Cerabooge“…the ACA … is mainly a giant subsidy to the insurance companies.”.No kidding ? Don’t forget it was the Republicans who designed it so the insurance companies were still in the money-making loop.

This should be “Stop, Drop and Roll”, with the NRA rubbing their cute little bellies and saying “Good Dog!”

The only way to stop a bad congressman with a bill is a good congressman with a bill.

Republicans legislators are sticking to their “principles”.
They are terrified of losing bribes campaign contributions, and even more terrified of being primaried by someone endorsed by the NRA.
And OBAMA IS COMING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS!

Maybe the Republicans can hide in the toilet with their feet up on the seat so the public can’t find them hiding in there?
