……still not sure why Abner would prefer chasing Tracy overseas than just trying again here. Anyways, if it’s to be her first contract, she has a chance to turn good, a la Blaze…
Night-Gaunt49 mentioned,Welcome ghouls and zombies to the present story on Dick Tracy edged in black.-—————————————————————————.My kind of story! I love what I’m seeing here!
The real mystery to me is what Rikki possibly sees romantically in someone old enough to be her great-grandfather and with a face like a prune. Rather than just a cute little goth girl, she has always seemed to me more like a follower of Manson who will do anything her cult leader says without question. I have even thought that perhaps Abner has hypnotized her into blind compliance. At any rate, she is as bloodthirsty and cruel as he is—or has been so far. Other than her cute looks, I don’t find many redeeming qualities in Rikki.
These two, Rikki and Abner, will not live happily ever after. One or both will end up in prison or dead fish dead. Tracy will survive. He does that, because that’s what our eponymous hero always does. All we need now is to fill in the details and exotic locales along the way to that inevitable result….
Also, without the mask, Abner probably looks younger, and he obviously is in decent shape to be running around doing some of the stuff he does. Throw in the obvious wealth, with Rikki the pretty obvious heir, plus her love of creepy stuff, too….and I can see enough there to attract her…
Even though not all Tracy female villains are pleasant to look at – Mr. Pruneface comes to mind – there is a tradition going way back of physically attractive female villains – Breathless Mahoney, Sleet, Autumn Hews, and more recently, Venus. But, can we please keep in mind that they are villains. Sure, some are written sympathetically, but the whole point of Dick Tracy is that crime is wrong, and that good citizens try to avoid misdeeds.
With respect to all those who will disagree with me, Abner Kadaver just does not feel like a Dick Tracy villain. Costumed criminals are much more of a Batman trope.
Batman, The Flash, Ironman, Spiderman. You are too limited in your vision in this area. Look wider. Joker, Dr. Octopus, Inhumans, The Green Goblin, Penguin etc.Again, with respect if you disagree, but you just made my point for me. Every single one of your examples comes from the “Super-Hero” genre. My point was exactly that – Dick Tracy was not intended to be that genre of comic strip. I just used Batman as one of the more obvious examples, but what I was trying to say is that costumed villains running around in Dick Tracy change the tone of the strip.

Rikki does not feel good about Abner’s plan to make Tracy’s vacation memorable. She fears that Abner might not return…

Rikki’s reaction to Abner about his plans for Tracy reminds me of Blaze’s reaction to Notta.

How could a cutie like Rikki fall for a toad like Abner?

I think it’s cool that Rikki doesn’t subscribe to the “looks are what’s most important” theory that so many do…..
