It is not the government’s job to protect people from themselves. Do your really want the government deciding what is best for you? How you should live your life? Soon they will be dictating where you should live, what job you should do, who you should marry, if you should have children, and when. Etc. Etc.
So if we admit that people who want (not need) a drug can get it by finding the right doctor to prescribe it how can the stoners say that won’t happen with “medical” marijuana (with a straight face)?
People in pain being denied a non-pharmaceutical way to combat pain. People in temporary pain getting permanent addictions, people in pain overdosing and dying. Pharmaceutical companies making record profits while we are gouged, deal with side effects and get addicted. Meanwhile we have the right espousing “personal responsibility” and “government shouldn’t tell you what to do” but they allow these companies to kill and addict our citizens.
Had a couple surgeries recently, with a couple days of opiods for pain, then ibuprofen (allergic to acetamenaphin!), because of experience with addicted relatives, and other disabled vets, led to considerable fear of addiction. Which, btw, medical marijuana works quite well, is controllable, and while some have psychological addiction, there is no physical addiction to it. (Vaping or edibles better than smoking also btw)
I still do have concerns about recreational use of marijuana, like alcohol- which is FAR more dangerous, because in both cases folks don’t recognize, or pay attention to the fact they’re impaired for such as driving. BTW: recent AAA “study” showing increase in MVA fatal accidents with marijuana where legal, ignored the fact that over 90% of those with THC, also had illegal levels of alcohol in their systems!! 50%+ of fatal vehicle “accidents” have long been the result of alcohol/drunk driving.
But the real issue is big pharma pushing hard drugs on folks, just consider how much they spend on TV advertising rather than actual research and development of drugs, especially for “orphaned” conditions.

I know they can be over-prescribed and given to people who don’t actually need them, but also.those who take them when they don’t need them and abuse them often do nothing but Hurt the people who really do need them.I know more than one person who would have taken his own life without something to mitigate their pain.Some people (who have never needed them want to eliminate them altogether.
