Buckwheat was of course a character from the Our Gang film shorts series from the 1930s/1940s (later televised under the title ‘The Little Rascals ’). This strip was from around the time when Eddie Murphy was playing an adult version of the Buckwheat character on SNL. The original actor, Billie ’Buckwheat’ Thomas died in 1980.

I’ve been redoing my 40th birthday for quite a few years now. Good thing I did, too.

I have a friend whose birthdays have become anniversaries of his 39th birthday. He’ll say, it’s the the 32nd anniversary of my 39th birthday with a smile as we do the math in our head.

“You look like Buckwheat.” There’s one that probably went over a lot of heads.

As I like to say… “Getting old stinks, but it sure beats the alternative….”

The trick is to halve your age and celebrate twice. So when you turn 40, you celebrate being twenty and the next day you celebrate being twenty more. It really starts feeling good when you get up around 60.
