Years ago I was living in an apartment north of NYC and a woman called up insisting she had called a diving school. I verified she’d called my number but she wouldn’t believe i wasn’t a scubva diving school. Finally i said “Look we don’t do that. Not since…the accident.” amazing how fast she hung up.
Back in the day, a friend of mine’s phone number was one digit off the local number for the 700 Club. He’d get calls in the wee small hours from people who’d claim they’d found Jesus.
I live in a place where the metro area is on both sides of a state line. When I was still a productive member of society, one our phones in the lab was the same number as a golf course in the “other state”. That phone would ring pretty much all day with people wanting tee times. We finally had to silence it.
