The dog would be better off putting his hunting instincts to work in looking for a stick himself. Let Rover do what dogs do, find a stick chase a squirrel, just be a dog, without having to rely on Poindexter there to provide for his every need.
And make sure he cleans up after dogs do what dogs do.
