Well, they say talking to plants helps them grow. Now maybe we will see that in action…

My mother had a fern that started turning dry and brown, and she turned to her expert at the nursery, who asked if there had been any new houseguests smoking near the plant recently. “No”, she said, “in fact my husband just had to give up smoking on his doctor’s strict orders.”.“That’s the plant’s problem, then. It’s gotten addicted to Ralph’s second-hand smoke, and since he quit it’s going through nicotine withdrawal.”

My mother was a genius with plants. One time someone gave her a dying Christmas cactus. Soon she had it healthy and blooming, but it only bloomed in April…around her birthday! (Unfortunately, I have a “black” thumb, and even plastic plants die at my husband’s hand.)

there are actually 3 types of ‘christmas’ cactus. on blooms around thanksgiving, on christmas, and one in the spring. they are all daylight dependent to set the blooms at the correct time of the year for them.
