Breaking Cat News by Georgia Dunn for May 06, 2016
Transcript:
Lupin: It's nearly bedtime, and Tommy and his Woman are going home. Woman: Are you sure you don't want to stay until the roads clear? The big red couch is more comfy than it looks! Tommy's Owner: Thanks, but we've got to get back to Sophie! Tommy's Owner: If I know that cat, she's curled up on a pile of good books! Tommy: They hold body warmth and smell like the past! Woman: Wow. She does great work. Elvis: CN NEWS, I CAN'T FEEL MY WHISKERS. Lupin: In other news, the kitten is sleeping in the office! Puck, what can you tell us? Puck: Lupin, the kitchen is so small. Puck: AND THE WORLD IS SO BIG. Puck: Someone very brave better stand guard in the doorway. Lupin: Poor kid. She's been through so much, now a strange new place. Maybe someone should sit up with her. Puck: I think someone is.

we knew Elvis would be the guardian. He doesn’t trust anyone else to do the job properly.

Panel 7! I caught my breath with surprise! Puck here is the spitting image of my Bill, also a Russian Blue, also a sensitive soul. This look made me tear up.

Tea, newspaper, reading glasses. Elvis is in for the night. Now, in the morning, will he expect room service?

Panels 6 and 7 make me shed a quiet tear " the kitten is so small and the world is so big." And then Elvis reading the paper and watching over the kitten. With Buzzy Mouse in the bed with her. As usual every panel is a treasure.

The only problem I have with this script is that sometimes the screen goes all blurry while I’m laughing….

Even Elvis is always going all goofy he has a sweet tender heart in side. He looks like an old-time grandpa sitting there reading and protecting the kitten.

That last panel reminds me of the closing scene of “To Kill A Mockingbird”, with Atticus sitting up with his injured son, and Scout’s voice-over, “Atticus would be there with him through the night, and he’d be there when Jem waked up in the morning.” Oh, GEORGIA!!

The first time I ever was in a library was a tiny little place in Blue Point, Long Island. It had probably never had air conditioning, and it was a warm, moist summer night. The smell of books when I walked in was as thick and entrancing as nectar; I couldn’t get enough. Now, I collect old books of my favorite authors. Sometimes when I open one and stick my nose right into the crease between pages and breathe deeply I get that same smell. Absolute HEAVEN!
