Jim Fixx, famous jogger dropped dead while running

Alas, all people who exercise end up dead.

I get up each morning and dust off my wits / Open the paper and read the obits / If I’m not there, I know I’m not dead / So I eat a good breakfast and go back to bed.

Yes, Jim Fixx died of heart disease. And there are people who smoke heavily and live a long time. But it’s worthwhile improving your odds. As Damon Runyon said in updating the bible: “The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that’s the way to bet.”

Frazz’ argument doesn’t entirely hold up logically…but, hey, it’s only a comic strip.

Usually if you are surrounded by family, the death has been oncoming and obvious. Not pleasant.

I want to die like my grandfather, peacefully in his sleep. Not like the other four people in the car who died screaming…
