Reminds me of a “Calvin and Hobbes” strip. Hobbes asks for one card, flips his tail around in Calvin’s sight, and Calvin says he folds. “Are you cheating,” Hobbes asks.

Yeah, me too! Although this strip here does manage to bring something new to the gag.

It must be hard being a cartoonist after Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes! It’s not just that they’re influential; all the cartoonists read them years ago and have the jokes in the back of their minds, and whether they like it or not they’ll eventually start drawing old gags thinking they just thought it up.

Personally, I enjoy these moments and just think of them as hommages to my favourite comic strip ever. DS always manages to bring something new to the gag, as I said before, so she’s golden.

I have a friend named Weirdo, and I hear her voice every time I read Marigold’s speech bubble.

Phoebe must be from the south. Southerners pronounce that way. I used to have a friend from South Carolina who’d talk about her friend, whose name I never knew whether it was Dale or Dell.

I wonder if this strip implies that Phoebe has a southern accent?

This is what happens when two different written words are spelled the same way.
