My iFruit laptop still has a DVD/CD-ROM drive. The new iPatty* does not even have a USB port!

*You know, the one that looks like an oversize iPhone.

I still have a working machine that takes 5 1/2” floppies. There have been rare times when people needed data of one of them, but not in the last 5 years.

I’ve still got one box that is loaded with Windows 3.1.1 and takes floppies. Works like a charm for its intended purpose. Jeff

USB ports won’t be removed from real computers for a long time (the iToy doesn’t even pretend to be a real computer), but my newest one doesn’t have a parallel or serial port, so I can’t use my external modem should the need ever arise. (And it didn’t come with an internal modem obviously. Or floppy drive…) If you have anything on obsolete media like floppy discs or Zip discs, better transfer it to CD-R before the old drive dies – you probably can’t get a new drive!

I put a floppy drive in my desktop comp, just in case. I still have an emergency boot disk I use sometimes. But most transfers I use USB.

I thought a floppy drive was a satire on the book
