Saudi Arabia maintained slavery until 1962 (“fun” fact: the first black man to eat in the restaurant of one of Boston finest hotels was the slave of then Prince Faisal of Saudi Arabia. That was in 1945.) Oman outlawed slavery in 1970, and slavery claiming the sanction of Islam is documented in Chad, Mauritania, Niger, Mali, and Sudan today.
