Any idea how many folks are dying every day due to the environmental, and political effects (wars, terrorism), of climate change? It’s already a greater threat, even given recent events in Paris.

Frustrating how the right often has trouble with numbers. Here is data for 2011, the last year I could quickly find statistics for:

Americans killed by terrorists: 17Americans killed by guns in homicides: 11101Americans killed by severe weather: 1096Americans killed on the road: 32479

I suppose 17 ambulances are enough to fill the frame.

If only citizens would fear dark-skinned children instead of rising coastlines! It’s only a coincidence that the wealthy folks who bankroll rightwing ‘grassroots’ organizations benefit from lax pollution laws.

That is not the point. The point is that people are very bad at understanding risk. People obsess and over react to “terrorism” but they jump in their car, don’t use the seat belt and text while tailgating. They could do something about their driving while not accepting refugees will do next to nothing to keep them safer.

Where is that bunglaow? I need to sell my house on the Outer Banks that’s disappearing. Maybe I can buy one there.

BTW, have you been to Miami lately?

Payne, a person is more likely to get struck by lightening than to be a victim of a terrorist attack. The purpose of terrorism is to make people fearful – I see it worked very well on you. So much for the country songs about “talking real loud and walking real proud again”.

Once again, Republicans must be reminded that the President must be able to multitask. The GOP has a hard time with this — as do GOP cartoonists, who keep playing the same song, over and over again.

How do you explain the fact that the list of most environmentally ravaged spots on the globe is alos the same list of the world’s trouble spots and the breeding grounds of terrorism.

Payne with his over-simplistic solution of “Let’s bomb more places and kill more people” as a solution to everything is again attacking the symptoms but letting the cause of the problem run free.

Payne is consistent — He continues to ignore factual evidence and he continues to pander to RWNJs!

I despise Obama for reasons I have repeated over and over, but how is global warming not the greatest threat, not just to “national security,” but to the entire world? When rising sea levels swamp coasts and drown entire island nations, when drought and famine force mass migrations and wars, how is this supposed to be less of a threat than the very minor so-called terrorist attack in Paris? Iraq or Syria suffer more than that every single day.

Gods – nobody said anything about banning cars. The point is that terrorism is incredibly ineffective at killing Americans or anyone else for that matter. Being a victim of terrorism is about as likely as being killed by a falling coconut and we should be similarly afraid of it.

So I guess the Republican toonists don’t have anything else to comment about. And appear to be to dumb to understand that they are both issues, but one is more long term.

Climate change does change storm patterns, and snow is often the heavier “heart attack snow”, that kills more Americans than the terrorists in Paris did.

World wide, the CURRENT impacts of climate change are already worse than “terrorists” have caused, even counting the crazier groups like ISIL and Boko Haram, or our own home-grown shooters. (another one now going down in San Bernardino.)

“Not accepting ‘refugees’ will keep thousands of potential terrorists out.”Thousands? Please provide something to back up that ludicrous claim. The refugees we plan to allow in are families not sulking young men. Also, make up your mind as to whether they are stealing jobs or living off government aid. Maybe looking at how letting Vietnamese refugees settle here worked out will give you peace of mind on the long term picture. Please explain how we can do something about the unknown number of potential Christian terrorists already in the country.

In the article you cited“While Miami Beach has certainly suffered from sunny-day floods during high tides, recent reports about fish swimming in the street have come from further north in Broward County”-So there is flooding in the streets of Miami on sunny days, and fish HAVE been spotted in the streets in Broward County (rare, but happened) but since Obama specifically said “fish in Miami” we don’t have to worry about climate change.
