The school in Oregon was not a gun-free zone. In fact, there were people there with guns, but a good guy with a gun cannot stop a crazy man with a gun. .Empirical evidence shows that states with more guns have more gun deaths. States with looser gun laws have more gun deaths. Homes that keep guns have more gun deaths. We need to work on making owning guns socially unacceptable, like smoking around children.

People with conceal permits were allowed to carry at the school and several did. They also had more sense than to play John Wayne in a chaotic situation. So I guess the answer is that Oregon needs to loosen its conceal system so more delusional idiots with big dreams and tiny pee-pees can help worsen these situations when they occur.
My understanding is that all the colleges in Oregon are specifically NOT gun free zones.
And there was at least one “good guy with a gun” on campus at the time.
We don’t know if there were others. The brave, brave “good guys with a gun” may not be quite up the the task of facing a bad guy who is heavily armed and doesn’t have a lot to lose.
No one knows if any, or how many, fled the campus when the shooting started.

OK, how about the fact that since 1991, 171 million guns have been legally purchased. In that time, violent crime has dropped 51%.

Very depressing that, of all the “developed” nations, only the United States has an epidemic of mass shootings! Migh be our culture!
