Oh my! What is necessary to kill the myth that predators go after the weakest in the herd? The idea may be a part of the Darwinian religion but it is not science.
They are opportunists, they kill to eat. Given a choice, they take the easiest prey. Yes, some predators kill for fun, just look at the trophy hunters. If the meat is used and they take what is lawful, that is fine. But to kill a grand animal for a trophy, and let the rest rot is wasteful.
@MarpagResearch done by Doug Smith in the Yellowstone wolf population showed wolves do indeed go after the weak animals. Wolves bring out huge debates. It is worthwhile to read peer reviewed science, as the topic is distorted frequently on the internet.
