Get over it. He killed a lion, not a human being. He didn’t get drunk and drive the wrong way on a freeway and take out a church bus full of children. Male lions murder the children of their rivals.

I’m waiting for the outrage when an African dentist shoots a black bear in Minnesota. I have a morbid fear of getting onto airplanes that have flight plans but no landing plans.

    Excellent response, Ryan!

To those who are ‘tired’ of seeing everyone care so much about an animal and think they should ‘get over it," you are the problem with the world. The issue is that this was senseless violence, for no purpose at all. He had a team of people guiding him, so he wasn’t even a proper hunter. He had this prey spoon fed to him, and then he couldn’t even track it down quickly to humanely dispatch it. Lions kill quickly and without torment—they kill to eat and to live. Even when they kill a rival’s offspring, they only do so for practical survival purposes.

They are lions—this is what they do. Humans know better, live differently and have no excuses except those made by people looking to avoid accountability and the inconvenience of realizing how terrible most of the human species is. People should get outraged at more unjust killings, not fewer. Keep it up, people with functional empathy.

Things that happen all the time in Africa may be frowned upon elsewhere. Hacking your neighbors to bits with a machete, for instance. Or coming in as a United Nations representative and raping at will. Or even something so simple and commonplace as confiscating property from white people, or carrying on a genocidal war against people that the rest of the world couldn’t tell apart from you if their lives depended upon it.

“In human terms, … equivalent of allowing you to … be given a car … every man, woman and child … allowed to take out the entire population…”-Well, not exactly. Since there are only 300M Americans, you only get to kill 10,000 of them. And you have to be willing to pay off somebody in authority for the privilege.Putting it into perspective thus, I’m not sure I can see that this doesn’t happen all the time already.

In today’s Seattle Times there was an article about the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation vaccine program in Africa. They have almost eradicated polio on that continent. Last know case was over a year ago. The $50,000 + that jackoff spent to kill a protected lion could have been put to better use. He could have even done some good in our country with that kind of money, instead of killing something to compensate for his tiny “appendage.”

I must then point out that killing off a mere quarter of a million people is a fairly common achievement among governments and other pretenders to authority.Heck, the Aztecs killed more than that just for ritual sacrifice, and they didn’t even have guns.

It’s all about the love.If people love you, you can kill however many of whatever you like.Cases in point:Saddam Hussein (Iran 1980-1990 and Kurdistan 1987-88) 600,000 killed.People prefer him to George W. Bush.Mullah Omar – Taliban (Afghanistan, 1986-2001) 400,000 killed.People prefer him to George W. Bush.Idi Amin (Uganda, 1969-1979) 300,000 killed.More well-loved than Ronald Reagan!Rachel Carson – 50 million preventable deaths from malaria, mostly children.Nobody with a brilliant mind hates her!Margaret Sanger – PPFA conducts roughly 300,000 abortions annually. The beloved Saint of Women’s Health Care, superior in conscience and caring to anybody to the right of the Golden Horde. When you’re hot you’re hot. When you’re not, you’re not.
