I remember one award ceremony at my daughter’s elementary school. I was literally the only parent who showed up. And no, I’m not a SAHM; I took the time.
Now-a-days, the nearest Red Lobster to their location is in upstate NY (near Glens Falls). A franchise like Red Lobster can’t survive in a location that has too many good seafood restaurants.
If you know the parents don’t want to attend, make it be for the students instead and don’t invite the parents.
Personally, I hate it when a school tries to guilt parents into coming to too many events. Taking time off work, driving across town (from work), and attending a two-hour presentation only to find it was something that could have been covered better in an email drives me nuts. I am happy to sacrifice my time if my child values my presence or it genuinely benefits her or the school. Parents do NOT need make-work foisted on us.
When our kids went to school, the only time all the parents showed up was for the graduations. I remember one teacher saying to me long time ago that it made her sad that the parents who ought to come and hear about their kids, are not the ones who will show up.

A rather pragmatic approach on the teacher’s side.

Fortunately I bypassed all that useless trophy giving. Stupid, illogical, goes against the whole point of giving them for record of achievement.
