The strip is from 2007. Flat-panel monitors hadn’t taken over the world at that point. I had a flat-panel display at work but not at home.

Rita was his first x-gf. Norm spent much of the first year of the comic strip moaning about that breakup. He met Marta at a place that sold pumpkins but he never called her so they never dated. He never dated Maria Elena — she thinks that Norm had a crush on her but that was a story he made up to save Reine from a situation that she created. He and Greta dated a few times but she kept falling asleep on him during the dates. The tall dark-haired one was the office romance that wasn’t — one date and it was over with (at least as far as Norm was concerned). Bronte is the current pseudo-gf: she lives far enough away that she needs to fly to see Norm and they contact via email & phone calls.

I also stopped reading it when the current artist \ writer took over. With the recent changes at the comics kingdom, it has become easier to look at their older comics (without having a subscription) so I am currently reading the Mark Trail strips from 1974.

It could be anyone who needs equipment or software not available at home. Back in this time period, I didn’t have a company laptop that I could bring home to work on and internet access was slow (and the company didn’t pay for my internet connection) so I often went into work on Saturdays or Sundays to have access to things I needed to do my job (flat salary — no overtime pay). Work that needed to get done was done no matter what day of the week it was.

Weeklies still exist — mostly in areas that don’t have the population to support a daily paper. I subscribe to a weekly from an area where my mother grew up: keeps me up-to-date on an area that I remember growing up (spent time there every summer).

In Chicago, the newspapers were probably called “Daleys”, because of all the articles about the mayor.

The general html superscript and subscript used to work in the comments but they no longer work. Superscript 1 (¹), 2 (²) and 3 (³) can be used via their html forms. I don’t see any subscript numbers available.

Tony Cochran retired at the end of December 2022. The comic is in perpetual rerun mode. It is unlikely that Mr Cochran is reading comments and it is also unlikely that he will be drawing new Agnes comics.
