My younger daughter is like that. She loves watching movies, but the slightest bit of violence and she “covers up”. It has to be human-on-human violence, tho; she’s OK with human-on-animal, animal-on-human, and animal-on-animal violence. She’s odd that way.
Merely covering her eyes won’t help. That’s why Tess is covering Teena’s ears, too. The imagination is a powerful thing. What Teena is picturing based only on the sound is probably much worse than what is actually being shown on the screen. In the old (pre-television) days of radio dramas this was what was known as the “theatre of the mind.”
Not in my viewing experience…British crime shows rarely show the murder happening, it is always off screen and we find out about it from the coroner’s description after…I’m thinking of Midsommer Murders, or Poirot, or Heartbeat. They never show curdling, bloody scenes they way American shows do.

Just MUTE the TV. And maybe turn on the Closed Captioning so you don’t miss the plot.

They aren’t that graphic on the violence. The sex, yes, violence, no.
