Quote from Albert Einstein: “Should we be unable to find a way to honest cooperation and honest pacts with the Arabs, then we have learned absolutely nothing during our 2,000 years of suffering, and deserve all that will come to us…”

Gaza: Israel’s Auschwitz? This action breaks my heart. So, I’m afraid it will trigger another round of anti Semitism. . . Another downward spiral in Human relations.

Tom, good quote. It seems the best course of action for the U.S. is to walk away. When, if there is such a time, Israel and the Palestinians come to a peaceful resolution, then we could restart relations with them. Until then, we do not help by plowing money into Israel, and we only harm our own national interests.

I’m reading a book right now, “A Country Called Amreeka,” by Alia Malek which is about how the last century of this country’s history has looked from the perspective of immigrants from the Middle East. I’m really learning a lot, and I recommend it. I have no relationship to the author, publisher, or any bookseller. i gain nothing except karmic points from any of you picking it up. I’m just really glad I’m reading it.

This is the result of Hamas choosing to launch missiles at Israeli cities. I can’t blame Israel for trying to prevent more weapons from reaching Hamas.

^ And Hamas launches missiles at Israel because… and because… and because….

There’s no way out of that way of thinking, on either side.

The left always used to be opposed to anti-Semitism, and we should resist any tendency to turn opposition to specific policies of the Israeli government into anti-Semitism. But opposition to anti-Semitism does not mean giving Israel a blank cheque to do whatever it wants. There are lots of Israelis and non-Israeli Jews who want a just solution to this problem.

I am truly worried for our little planet. The suffering and ignorance is so rampant, I fear that we will never survive it. Also, thanks “earodrig” for the reading suggestion. I looked it up and it seems like something really worthwhile to read.

I thought I’d drop this here, just for the halibut:

“Rupert Murdoch and other conservatives have defined neosocialism as the pursuit of the classical ideals of socialism or Marxism through high taxation of wealth and heavy regulation of industry. Murdoch, the conservative owner of News Corporation, wrote that a “new class” of neosocialists was using government regulation as a tool for personal gain. This class includes career politicians and union members, according to Murdoch.

In traditional media, the word “neosocialism” has not been used widely outside of a few opinion articles, unlike the similar term “neoconservatism”. A LexisNexis search conducted March 20, 2005, reveals 20 other uses of the terms “neosocialism” or “neosocialist” in newspapers, most of which agree with Murdoch’s definition. In contrast, a search for the term “neoconservative” returns over 1,000 results. The Oxford English Dictionary does not include the term “neosocialism”. ’

    For further confusion:

What is that Albert Einstein quote even supposed to mean?

The world doesn’t have the stomach to discover (or acknowledge) the truth about Islam, the Middle East, and Armageddon, so events like this will continue right up to the culmination.

Every few weeks or maybe once a month a young girl who visits next door is in a great amount of pain…………….. She screams and yells, and speaks very angrily in a different language, however no one seems to care……… She is locked in a car in the driveway. She is definitely discriminated against by those in that home………………. And I do feel her pain and wish someone or something could be done to help her

Does anyone have an idea of what Israel SHOULD do about being surrounded by people and states who hate Jews, have declared war against Israel, and have made it their life’s mission to destroy Israel? I read a lot about what Israel is doing wrong, but never does anyone offer any positive suggestion.

Hamas sucks. Likud sucks. Hezbollah sucks. Al Qaeda sucks. AIPAC sucks. KKK sucks. Aryan Nations sucks.

The one thing some folks aren’t paying attention to on the “neighbors” thing is that many current Zionists STILL see “Israel” as extending to the Euphrates again— think about it.

^ Your prof sounds like Leo Strauss; “The people must remain religious, in war and in fear in order to remain virtuous”. He was teacher of Paul Wolfowitz.

The US won’t walk away as long as Bible nuts will keep believe they can control the day the Guy Upstairs sends the Rapture.

To many religious (but not to sane people), God is just a helpful contact they can pray to wnehever they have enemies in their way, in worst cases, they hink he’s their personal hitman (like those rabbis who prayed for Rabin to be assassinated, or most US evangelists, and many Imams (those who don’t have the guts to do the job themselves)). If they ever realized that God is not their personal servant, how many of them would still be religious?

All religions are different, zealots are not.

Bruce, putting the Quran and pagan philosophies on a pedestal with the Bible. Tsk, tsk. I said the “truth”, doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about it or really, where it comes from. The truth is the truth, and all of those things you mentioned are mutually exclusive, so they aren’t all true.

There is absolutely nothing that is worthwhile to learn from the Quran. I defy anyone to give me one nugget from the Quran that wasn’t already codified in an earlier scripture.

The Bible has plenty to say about Israel and its neighbors, especially as it relates to the future. The pertinent passages easily number over a thousand.

I’m sure you must have read the quran before making a comment like that. otherwise you’d be simply demonstrating ignorance and bigotry right? and how lucky for you to have been born in an area that follows the one true faith, rather than in all those other places where people are only born into THINKING they follow the one true faith.

Habanero, that was simply silly. Have you read every line in the Koran? Did you realize that there are mutually contradictory pieces in the Bible? Yes, there are many references to Israel in the Bible. Some are essentially propaganda; some have never been verified by any historical data; and some are horrifying – as when the Jews took over the Promised Land by slaying everyone, man, woman and child, who was living there already. Some may even be true. But do you really think a religious book whose most recent parts were written 1500 years ago is a good guide to modern geopolitics? Really?

Habanero; the teachins of the quran that are controversial now were taken from earlier books, like you pointed out, including the Bible. That’s where it gets its genocidal side from.

Bruce, I HAVE read the Bible, and I HAVE read the Quran (in English-despite the fact that “true Muslims” say it must be read in Arabic.) I find the Quran MUCH more “accommodating” than especially the Old Testament, though much of post-Mohammed Sharia law is based on that rule book Moses laid down, and I’m speaking of the real laws, not the “ten commandments”. “Everybody must get stoned” has a lot more brutal meaning when you read the laws of Moses.

I find what Buddha, or his most recent leader of Tibetan Buddhism- the Dalai Lama- say to be FAR more rich in understanding of the world, the universes, science, and human nature, on the better side of it.

and yes, much of the Quran IS taken from the bible, Abraham, Moses, and Christ are honored as prophets; not consumed as in so much of “Christianity”, as profitable.

Song of Solomon, pretty cool, Revelations was DEFINITELY written by someone on acid, mushrooms, or PCP.

trout, Bruce, there is a theory amongst some theologians that John was eating magic mushrooms (okay, psilocybin), no foolin’. Though the more conventional theologians say that it really was a message written in code to the early Jewish Christians, who would have picked up on the symbolism better than we do today – kind of writing an entire letter in slang to say, essentially, do not fear the Emperor, God is with us and will win in the end. John was being watched closely by the Romans, after all.

MM- yep, I’d read that too, and can definitely believe it in reading the text. Every dude I arrested on this class of drugs had his own “code”.

The other issue of course is the realm of “spirit quest” in many societies where thirst, starvation, and physical deprivation lead to hallucinations, and “wisdom”.

Then there’s Coulter, Beck, and Rush who seem very much to be hooked on meth.
