I was going to reserve the rest of the month for goofing off.Well except for the days when I have to work, then only half as much.

@LeadingEdge. Moping: feeling dejected and apathetic. As opposed to mopping ( cleaning up with a mop). I hope that cleared it up.

Today’s Calvin and Hobbes is one of my favorites, because Hobbes says, “Let’s make the most of the time we have left.” Great wisdom from Bill Watterson that one can apply when approaching the end of summer, approaching the end of a vacation, or approaching the end of life.

To view the following strips in the archive and help GoComics generate revenue, please click on the blue archive links below. To view the strips directly, click on the images below or stretch them.Speaking of approaching the end, we are in the final year of Calvin and Hobbes, from 1995, so today’s strip represents the last time that Calvin had to deal with going back to school. Here is the first time, from 1986:Calvin and Hobbes (September 15, 1986)Here are two wonderful Red and Rover strips by Brian Basset. The first one seems like it was inspired by today’s Calvin and Hobbes.Red and Rover (September 2, 2012)Red and Rover (August 31, 2013)

I’m glad summer is almost over. The heat has been frying my brain like a burger!

The only good thing about the summer this year is that we’ve had a thunderstorm. Love them!

Two of my best friends passed on this last month. Just the Timekeeper calling Time, just the Great Bartender calling, “Time, Gentlemen, please.” As Paul Simon sang, “Everything put together sooner or later falls apart.” All I hope for is a few seasons more and, oh, yes, would you hand me the duct tape, please?

Hobbes is right, but Calvin would rather “cut off his nose to spite his face”.

OTOH, the end of summer means cooler weather and brighter colors. Yay, Autumn!

@rgcviper: Don’t know how GoComics will handle a restart, because Calvin and Hobbes didn’t begin on January 1st. It began in November. Hope they don’t start over in November and cut off the final strips. Hope they don’t start over January 1st and cut off the first month and a half of strips. Perhaps they will start over January 1st and then skip selected strips in order to get into sync with the calendar.

How much “freedom” can you really have when you’re a kid anyway? You can’t do much or go very far on your own.
