Typically, Flatlanders should not be able to perceive a third dimension. That in turn means we should not be able to understand a fourth. If you accept “time” as a fourth dimension, then the 5th dimension becomes an issue. Good songs notwithstanding.
That “anything’s gotta be better than this” viewpoint is regularly disproven. Especially true if you welcome “overlords”. (ISIL or Boko Haram, anyone?).But it does remind me of something that’s always puzzled me: individuals who violently reject their parents or government telling them what to do, but then desperately search for a religion to do exactly that.

As for me, I wish to welcome our new overlords from the third dimension. They’d probably be quite an improvement over the corporate ones.
