Not having a daily routine when I first get my first dog is why I use commands for “nature visits”. I have one command for each of the two body functions. That way if I know I am going somewhere for a while and he won’t be able to go whenever he pleases I can give him the commands to do what needs to be done. The funny things is that my current dogs bowel movements are so regular I can set my watch by it. I still use the commands though just in case we need to hurry or are on the road. He is a good boy.

This will eventually happen with any dog you keep inside no matter how well ‘housebroken’ they are. They go out and get distracted and forget why they went out. Then come back in and just like Sophie………. uh-oh!

My Chloe is a good girl. I’m mildly disabled, she picks things up that I drop and gives them to me even when they are fascinating. If I end up on the ground and am not near a suitable piece of furniture I can call her over, give her a warning command, put my hand on her shoulders, and get just enough leverage from the bit of weight I put on her I can pull myself to my knees on my cane. Due to my illnesses my schedule is messed up, and there is one of those hallways you can’t catch the dog in because if you aren’t in it you can’t see it. And the carpet doesn’t change color when wet. So yes, she sometimes thinks it’s an emergency option. But she is a very good girl.
